Otako
About This Spot
Stepping down to the basement level in the elegant Ginza district, Otako offers a quietly inviting retreat from the polished streets above. The moment you enter, there’s a subtle warmth in the air — a blend of steaming pots, gentle chatter, and the faint clinking of glasses that sets a relaxed yet intimate pace. It’s the kind of place where locals and visitors alike lean into the comfort of timeless flavors, the kind that feel authentic and unpretentious.
Otako unfolds as a classic izakaya experience with a focus on oden, where each simmered dish carries a memory of home-cooked care. The softly glowing lanterns and simple wooden accents create a nostalgic atmosphere that invites slowing down and savoring small plates alongside carefully poured sake or a crisp Sapporo beer. Here, the joy is in discovering how each bite — from the silky daikon to tender chunks of beef tendon — gracefully captures the deep, layered essence of Japanese winter fare.
The rhythm of the evening often follows ordering a thoughtfully curated “omakase” selection, allowing the chef to guide you through a progression of tastes — from delicate sashimi to fried treasures and cooling soba noodles. The portions are modest, encouraging sharing and conversation rather than rushing to fill up. This measured nature invites lingering, savoring the company and the comforting hum of quiet appreciation around the room.
While not extravagant, Otako feels like a place that holds stories — a local’s nod to good food served simply and with sincerity. Friendly staff help you navigate the menu in English or Korean, smoothing the experience for visitors curious about Japan’s richer culinary whispers. Whether you’re drawn by the drawling aroma of simmered oden or a well-chilled cup of sake, Otako balances familiarity with the subtle excitement of discovery in every visit.

I wanted to eat Oden , so we decided to come this place. We ordered omakase which was 4 items chief selection. It was tasty! The shirako tasted great I’m so addicted it. It seemed bit pricey for me, but at Ginza I think it’s reasonable.

Classic Oden shop in Ginza. They got all sorts of Oden items to choose from I highly recommend to order „Omakase“ and just add few other items that speaks to you. Plus some sashimi, veggies, fried food and curb on the side if u need to and you will be filled for sure. It’s not a fancy place but good-old-days nostalgic place.

Comparing with other Oden restaurants in Ginja, the price is reasonanle. Daikon was my favorite and Chiguwa was good too. I recommend u to try different things of your choice than the plate of selections(Omakase Moriawase). Highball was good as well with the Odens. The staff was nice and friendly. They have a menu in Enlgish/Korean as well so it was easy to order.

I highly recommend the Oden set. Portion size is huge, so make sure you don’t over order.

Based on fish cake, you can enjoy various Japanese side dishes. It was a great place to feel Japanese with various alcoholic beverages. There are also English and Korean menus.

Oden is typically a winter dish and can be eaten for any meal. It is based in a nice fish broth with condiments, typically, chosen by the patron. This small oden specialty restaurant is located in the heart of Ginza and offers amazing food and extremely reasonable fare. The oden selection is extensive and the broth is freshly made daily. They also have a selection of fried and boiled food options in addition to a small selection of sashimi. This place is typically frequented by locals but is foreigner friendly with a full English menu and a friendly team patient and willing to answer any questions!
